4 Honeymoon Surf Trips – something you’ll talk about forever

Taking a surf trip for your honeymoon is an experience you and your partner will talk about for a lifetime. Choosing this type of escape lets you combine the thrill of surfing some of the best breaks in the world with luxury accommodation in idyllic settings.

Surf trip resorts cater to all levels of surfers, from novice to advanced, with some offering lessons for beginners. If you and your partner are intermediate or advanced surfers, there are charter boat trips to uncrowded breaks with local guides and surf instructors.

Here are a few of the best honeymoon surf trip resorts with the lot: great surf at the door, five-star accommodation, spa treatments, privacy, and those must-have romantic walks along palm fringed beaches.

The Villas of Byron – NSW Australia

Byron Bay is one of Australia’s top surfing destinations due to its warm weather, and laid-back lifestyle. Its position at Australia’s most easterly coastal point makes it open to the winter swells that create great waves all year round.

There’s always a buzz in Byron, but the secluded Villas of Byron, provide a honeymoon escape to a private and luxurious honeymooners’ sanctuary. You can still walk or drive easily from here to the most popular local surf breaks including The Pass, Tallows Beach, Wategos, Broken Head and Lennox Head.

There are only five Asian-style villas, each with its own heated pool and spa, outdoor rain shower, spacious living area and gourmet kitchen. Eating out is as easy as strolling into Byron Bay village to choose from one of many eateries.

The Royal Huahine Resort - Tahiti

With its year round warm weather, unspoilt islands, pristine lagoons teeming with tropical fish and over-the-water luxurious resorts, Tahiti is a honeymooner’s paradise.

The Royal Huahine Resort delivers all this plus access to some of French Polynesia’s best surfing spots renowned for their consistent and perfectly shaped waves suited intermediate and advanced surfers.

The resort’s bungalows are situated on the calm lagoon and each features a swimming platform and a private Jacuzzi from which to take in the endless water views and spectacular sunsets.

In between surfs, take a dip in the resort pool or dive, snorkel or kayak on the lagoon.

Royal Davui Island Resort - Fiji

How about the ultimate remote island honeymoon experience?

With an adults-only policy, 32-guest limit, personalised service and contemporary Asian-inspired private fales (bungalows), it’s not surprising the Royal Davui Island Resort was voted ‘Most Romantic Island Hideaway in the South Pacific, Caribbean and Atlantic’ by Conde Nast Traveller.

For honeymooners who want to hang ten, Royal Davui is perfectly positioned a short boat ride to remote surf spots, including the world famous left break, Frigates. While Frigates is for the more experienced surfer, a boat and guide can be chartered to take you to the many smaller Viti Levu breaks about 30 minutes away.

And when you’re not out cutting loose on the waves, relax in your fale’s private plunge pool set above the beach amidst lush tropical gardens and enjoy the sweeping water views over the Beqa lagoon.

Island Spa at Four Seasons Kuda Huraa - Male, the Maldives

With waves that enable easy take-offs and offer long rides and modern luxurious resorts, the Maldives is a popular destination for honeymooners and surfers of all levels.

The five-star Island Spa at Four Seasons Kuda Huraa is a perfect destination for couples learning to surf or wanting to perfect their technique as the resort has a professionally run surf school, Tropicsurf of Noosa.

Beginners are taught in the calm waters of the lagoon and proficient surfers are taken out to the breaks with local guides who know all the best spots. The resort also offers seaplane ‘surfaris’, trips to secret outer breaks, stand-up paddle lessons, and even a seven-day ‘surfari’ aboard the Four Seasons Explorer cruiser.

Outside of all that, you can chill out in private in your over-the-water bungalow, indulge in world-class spa treatments, take a dip in the sublime resort pools, take a shark snorkel safari or a dolphin cruise.

Honeymoon Destination - Hawaii

The Wedding Gurus take you on a journey to
HAWAII

Hawaii is a honeymooners paradise with fantastic weather, stunning beaches and a never ending array of activities.

Hawaii is made up of 6 main islands with the main tourist spot being Honolulu on O’ahu. Honolulu (Waikiki) is Hawaii’s leisure and pleasure capital with gorgeous beachside resorts lined with the sparkling waters of the Pacific Ocean. Here you will find the main strip of Kalakaua Avenue where you can enjoy world class shopping, dining and entertainment. For those who do not enjoy the sand or the hustle and bustle of tourists, then Hawai’i (The Big Island) might be for you. The Big Island is home to the worlds most active volcano along with deserts, rainforests and surprisingly snow capped mountains. If you are looking for a holiday which includes the sun, sand, shopping and relaxation with a little exploring, hiking and mixing with the locals then why not take the time to spend 5 days on each island. Flights between them are only a mere 40 mins departing with Hawaiian Airlines several times each day.

The Facts:
Destination: Hawaii
Capital:  Honolulu

Location: USA

Distance from Australia: Aprrox. 9hours 45mins
Average Temperature:  27°

The Big Island -  Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa

My Top 5 Must do’s in Honolulu:

1.       Diamond Head Crater Walk: Hike to the summit of Diamond head and enjoy 360 degree views of Waikiki and the blue of the Pacific Ocean

2.       Enjoy a shopping spree and bag a bargain at Ala Moana Centre. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes as this behemoth precinct is some 1.8 million square feet. (picture: ariel view of the huge complex)

3.       Paradise Cove Luau: Experience a genuine Hawaiian Luau with a backdrop of a spectacular sunset. Amongst the excitement you will also enjoy tropical dishes, island games and local crafts.

4.       Pearl Harbour: Relive a monument in history at the Arizona Memorial shrine dedicated to the final resting place of the thousands of sailors killed during the Pearl Harbour attack in WWII.

5.       Take a romantic stroll down Waikiki Beach Walk, grab yourself a rainbow coloured shaved ice and stop to admire the beautiful sunset.

My Top 3 Must do’s on The Big Island:

1.       Snorkel the secluded and beautiful beaches of the Kona Coast

2.       Hiking: Take the time to explore the breathtaking landscapes of the big island. Make your way through the volcanic trails or adventure through Hilo to find secluded waterfalls, many of the visitor centres will have trails you can follow.

3.       Helicopter Tour: Discover the big islands beauty with a birds eye view of its volcanic fury, lush rainforests and turquoise blue coast.

Honeymoon Destination of the Month - Fiji

The Wedding Gurus take you on a journey to

FIJI
_________________________________

Take a moment to imagine: (yes close your eyes) A pristine white beach with sand between your toes, warm sea breezes brushing your cheek and whispering through the palm trees; a heavenly fragrance of tropical flowers floating through the air; the distant sounds of drums and melody; sweet tasting cocktails enjoyed on your swaying hammock and all whilst watching a breathtaking sunset on the horizon.

Yes, Fijioffers the height of romance and is the perfect destination for your honeymoon.

About Fiji:

Fijiis a tropical archipelago made up of over 333 magnificent islands located in the South Pacific. The islands are surrounded by stunning turquoise sea, with the mainlands fringed with long white sandy beaches and swaying palm trees. The Wedding Gurus recommend staying along the coast of Denerau Island where there are 13 hotels all boasting a 4-5star rating. The benefit to you is that many of them allow you to use each others facilities offering an endless array of restaurants, bars, shopping, pools, spas + much much more. Given the main town of Nadi, while great for shopping (mainly carved woods and jewelry) has little to offer by means of hospitality. On Denerau you have all you need in one place and of course if you love time alone you have the option of staying on your own private island. For me personally, I love adventure and there are day trips departing every day to the islands from the mainland where you can enjoy activities such as snorkelling, kayaking, sun bathing + much more.

Destination: Fiji
Capital: Suva
Location: South Pacific

Distance from Australia: Approx 4 hours

Average Temperature:  Tropical 31°
Recommended Length of Stay: 1 week
Recommended Hotel: Westin Denerau Resort and Spa, or for those interested in staying on a private island then Tokoriki Island Resort (Mamanuca Island Group).

My Top 8 must do’s in Fiji:

1.Snorkle or Dive – There is a wealth of dive sites offered where you can enjoy the underwater world of colourful coral and fish. If diving is a little out of your comfort zone then enjoy a relaxing snorkel or jump in a glass bottom boat allowing you to view the magic of the reefs whilst keeping dry.

2. ZipFiji (Flying Fox) – Take a Cable Ride through the canopies of the Pacific Coasts rainforest enjoying the stunning views of the flower and fauna on this unique experience.

3. Cruise Enjoy a romantic cruise aboard a charter or private yacht, discover the islands secluded coves and limestone caves and navigate the culture and lush beauty of what the islands have to offer.

4. Parasail – You and your partner can parasail of the coast of Denarau Island enjoying exclusive breathtaking birds-eye views of Fiji’s magical land and glittering pacific ocean. The photo is of me and my Fiancee enjoying the thrilling experience on our Trip to Fiji 2009.

5. Island Day Trip – Cruise to one of the may beautiful island and enjoy a day of relaxation and fun. Many of the tours offer lunch, entertainment, snorkelling, kayaking + much more.

6. Relax and be pampered after a days adventure with a traditional massage at one of the beautiful day spas.

7. Enjoy an authentic Fijian cultural show with dancing, fire displays, singing and other fascinating rituals and traditions. I was particularly caught up in the moment as you can see in the picture, I found the Fijians to be warm, welcoming and super friendly people who take pride in their culture and beliefs.

8. There is nothing like sitting back to relax on a hammock, as a newly wedded couple, cocktail in hand taking in the tranquillity of a beautiful sunset and warm tropical breeze. If nothing else Fiji is worth visiting just to bask in this moment, and personally is my most cherished memory of Fiji.
